The amine sweetening process can experience some loss of amine. However, in case of heavy losses or a sudden change in the amine losses, the following areas should be investigated:

  • excessive Amine lost from contactor:
-excessive gas flow causing jet flooding
-incoming lean amine too hot
  • excessive amine lost from regenerator:
-free water or liquid hydrocarbons flooding regenerator
-reflux condenser cooling properly
-reflux pump operating correctly
-reboiler/stripping steam temperature too hot
  • physical amine leaks:
-heat exchanger or vessel leaks
-pump, flange, or valve leaks
-corrosion-induced ruptures
