The amine sweetening process can experience some loss of amine. However, in case of heavy losses or a sudden change in the amine losses, the following areas should be investigated:
- excessive Amine lost from contactor:
- -excessive gas flow causing jet flooding
- -incoming lean amine too hot
- excessive amine lost from regenerator:
- -free water or liquid hydrocarbons flooding regenerator
- -reflux condenser cooling properly
- -reflux pump operating correctly
- -reboiler/stripping steam temperature too hot
- physical amine leaks:
- -heat exchanger or vessel leaks
- -pump, flange, or valve leaks
- -corrosion-induced ruptures
